Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Can India Conquer Adelaide in the Upcoming Test Match?

India is getting ready for their second Test match against Australia, a pink-ball, day-night Border-Gavaskar Trophy encounter, at the Adelaide Oval.

As seen by India's most recent pink-ball Test in Australia in December 2020, this format presents special difficulties. That match, which took place in Adelaide as well, finished dramatically and is now regarded as one of the most talked-about in recent cricket history.

On the third morning of the first Day/Night Test at Adelaide Oval on December 19, 2020, the Indian cricket team was humiliated by being limited to its lowest-ever score in Test cricket, falling to 36/9 in the second innings against Australia. The previous lowest score for India was 42 against England at Lord's in 1974; this match is referred to as the "Summer of 42" in Indian cricket jargon.

India chose to bat first and scored 244 runs in the first innings thanks to Virat Kohli's 74. In that innings, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara each made contributions of 42 and 43.

Tim Paine, the captain at the time, put up a valiant, undefeated 73 in reply, but Australia was bowled out for 191. However, in the second innings, Pat Cummins (4/21) and Josh Hazlewood (5/8) utterly demolished the opposition, and the Indian squad collapsed like a pack of cards.

In the fourth innings, Australia won the match with eight wickets remaining. Notably, India won two Test matches in the following three games to win the BGT after suffering a crushing defeat in Adelaide.

Prior to the crucial test, the Indian team had seemed to be playing at their best. In the first Test and the ongoing warm-up match, both bowlers and batters have displayed encouraging traits.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, a 161-run machine and young opener, along with more seasoned players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, have all looked outstanding thus far, as has Virat Kohli, who hammered his record-breaking 81st century in Perth. Before the difficult task in Adelaide, the Indian camp is more confident because to the bowling department's outstanding performances, particularly those of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, and Harshit Rana.
